Snow Skiing Instructions

If you are a beginning skier looking for snow skiing instructions, the best thing to do is take a class. Most every ski resort offers instruction for all skill levels. There are group and private classes for various age groups. Although learning the fundamentals of skiing on your own is a good way to get started, you will still need a professional to help guide you when you are actually on the slopes for the very first time. The first step is to acquire the right equipment and learn how to use it.

The first time you ever put on your ski boots you will most likely find them uncomfortable. Walking can be a challenge for newbies. When walking in ski boots, keep your knees gently bent and stomp when walking. This makes it easier to get around. After you get the hang of walking in ski boots, you can put on your skis for the first time. This will definitely be a strange feeling if you've never worn skis before. Now is the time to learn a few basic techniques that will serve you well on the slopes.

One of the first techniques beginners learn is called the snow plow. You may also hear this technique referred to as the pizza or the wedge. This technique should be practiced on the bunny slope, which is where you should be anyway if you are a new skier. First, slide gently down the slope. Point your skis towards each other so that the tips are almost touching each other. If you fall while trying this technique, point your skis sideways across the slope rather than down. Learning to fall is another important skill. When you fall, use your hip and shoulder to absorb the impact and try to fall sideways.

To turn on skis, simply shift your body weight to the opposite direction of the way you want to go. Once you master this technique you will be able to zig zag down the slopes. The best thing to do when seeking snow skiing instructions is take a class from a ski resort. Before you do, you may also want to check out some videos or DVDs that explain the fundamentals. That way you can see the basic techniques being done so you will have some background knowledge when you start your classes.
